So here we are with another Sunday on our hands. Time to fire up the caffeine, turn on the heater (it’s winter here in Melbourne) and relax with the paper or a Dan Brown novel (the odds at the moment are around 65 million to one that it’s one of his books you’re reading).

But we aren’t here to discuss conspiracy theories (this week), we are here to chat about Cesare Marilungo. He is classed on Opsound as an independent web releasing musician/artist/hacker/thinker. I just think he is a rather nifty musician. This piece is powered along by a piano, features minimal drumming, sparse samples, and Marilungo’s deep, rather soothing vocals. Except for a couple of minor points,
A: he’s singing in Italian(?) and
B: it’s totally undecipherable
He could be singing “Baa Baa Black Sheep” for all I know, but it really doesn’t matter as the vocals are just another texture in this piece.

So basically it’s perfect for a chilly winters Sunday morning.

There is a bunch of other material at his site www.cesaremarilungo.com/ , find the downloads section and have a rummage and see what else you can find. In the meantime, back to the coffee and book.

Update: Jools contends that he is singing in English. Any other takers?

thatch is fascinated by guitars, music, guitars, production, silly noises, guitars and used to be a musician. Did I mention the thing about the guitars?

  1. Yes, I’m singing in english on that track. But the lyrics are very personal and, as you said, my voice is there just as another texture. So, it doesn’t matter.

By the way there’s also a video of the song that you can watch (and even download) at:
