Over the last few years Tim has been quietly slipping round Melbourne (both sides of the Yarra) photographing bands, musical events and whatever else he comes across on his travels.

There are a number of great things about Tim’s pictures.
Firstly, Tim doesn’t primarily concentrate on the big names, a lot of the bands he features are either not that well known or have their own little niche.

Secondly, his work captures not only the act but the audience and general atmosphere of the event.

Thirdly, he is prolific. It is not uncommon for him to catch 3 or 4 gigs a week, not bad for someone who does it generally for no payment or as he says on his website “In the past I have accepted payment in my name on the door, a CD or a few drinks” — many bands have featured his work on their websites and/or cd covers (yes, cds still exist)

Finally, the shots are immediately posted on his website so you get to see what’s happening round town (or in some little corners) virtually in real time.

As time passes his work will be a really important record of Melbourne and it’s music scene, but hell, i think it’s pretty interesting now.
