Brook Pridemore

Brook Pridemore is a punk folk indie artist from New Jersey, he got his first guitar at the age of fourteen. Zoom forward and he is living in New York, coping with life in the big city and trying to meet other like-minded songwritersand trying to put the PUNK in punk-folk and here is a portion of his bio from myspace…

Hello, my name is Brook Pridemore. I’m a folk singer, but I’m also a punk band. I play guitar and ukelele alone, or with my band, the Strikebreaker’s Union. The Strikebreaker’s Union consists of anywhere from one to six people at a time. It is a fluid, revolving door lineup that includes/has included members of The Ergs!, Lowry, The Bowmans, Creaky Boards, El Kay and Hearth, as well as innumerable singers and players I’ve me in New York and on tour. Some things about me: Under duress, I would cop to being an anarchist, but I really consider myself to be apolitical. I tried to be vegan, but couldn’t hack it. I like cheese. All the power to you vegans, though. I feel like I speak pretty shitty Spanish, but then people who speak Spanish really well (like, as a first language) say I speak it pretty good. I will play anywhere, any time, in front of anyone. Within reason. I believe in the use of all words, regardless of context or connotation. I just released my third album on Crafty Records, “The Reflecting Skin.” The Strikebreaker’s Union consists (this time) of Mikey Erg! on drums, Adam Z on bass, Steve Seck on Accordion, and myself. Guest vocals were provided by Toby Goodshank, Dan Costello, David LK Murphy, Andrew Hoepfner, and the Ghost Mice (Chris, Hannah and Pascaloo). I hope to see you soon, in your town or mine. My name is Brook Pridemore, and I approve this message.

So I think it’s a safe bet to say he is silly and yes he sings as fast as the bio above woud indicate. The punk folk influence is more American punk than say the Pogues/Sex Pistols. But the song Teeth is just a good song.

Have a listen to “Absolutely Zero Potential” as well.

Over at Wampus there is ‘Hurry Home Early: the Songs of Warren Zevon’. It’s a 13 track CD featuring covers Zevon classics interpreted by emerging artists, Brook Pridemore does “Life’ll Kill Ya” as an uptempo punk piece. Only a sample but a good one.

thatch is fascinated by guitars, music, guitars, production, silly noises, guitars and used to be a musician. Did I mention the thing about the guitars?
