From the UK comes Caroline Lavelle. She was classically trained and fully expected to pursue a career in classical music. However her life took a completely different tack.
Starting out busking in Covent Garden, she cut her teeth with Siouxsie and the Banshees taking a detour by joining the Irish group De Dannan with Mary Black and Dolores Keane. She has since collaborated with some of the most illustrious names in the business like Peter Gabriel, Radiohead, Sakamoto, Loreena McKennitt, Laurie Anderson, and The Chieftains, writing/singing or producing with many great musicians including Vangelis, Massive Attack and Hector Zazou. Her first album Spirit was produced by William Orbit who had heard her work with Massive Attack, her second album Brilliant Midnight was self-produced and has been used in films and TV series including Six Feet Under. She is now working with Justin Elswick and Israel Curtis on her fourth album.

Her songwritng plumbs the depths of the Irish and British folk traditions both in theme and in melodic construction with a lovely contemporary twist that make the compositions stand out.
As well as the unaccompanied Bushes and Briars demo you can hear more tracks from previous albums at her myspace site.
