The Blues. We haven;t really had a blues band for a while, well yesterday I was listening to some Professor Longhair piano and remembered I had stumbled across this great little four piece months ago and promised myself I would go back and check them out. And NO they don’t sound like Prof Longhair or come to think of it even have a piano. But they do play the blues.

Gypsy Eyes Blues Band are a four piece band from Finland (the blues certainly travel well dont they?). They started back in 1999, playing mostly covers material and were originally a trio with an occasional guest blues harpist. In 2002 they had the inevitable line-up change and picked up a new drummer and saxophone player. They made the decision that there was no point in rehearsing cover songs because they already had plenty of original material.
So the band now gigs mostly in music bars and also the odd jazz/blues festival.

Working Overtime has a good live feel to it and I think captures what the band does.

Here’s what they say…

Our sound is a combination of soulful song-writing and improvisatory passages. As main goal we keep developing new music what is original while still keeping close to the roots.

Check out the website, it’s rather sparse on info but there are another bunch of songs to check out.

thatch is fascinated by guitars, music, guitars, production, silly noises, guitars and used to be a musician. Did I mention the thing about the guitars?
