Here is another of those fabulous Australian bands that slog up an down the country and eventually after about ten years finally get an ARIA award as best new talent.

Jen Cloher and The Endless Sea may not take that long. “Permanent Marker” 9 their debut EP) seems to have hit all the critics buttons, copping really good reviews. They scored a spot on the 2005 Triple J “Home and Hosed” compilation and toured endlessly

Here is some of the hype from www.myspace.com/jencloherandtheendlesssea/

In April 2005 Jen Cloher and The Endless Sea arrived with the song Rain, a lovelorn ballad dedicated to the themes of American writer Raymond Carver’s work – loneliness, redemption and a dark unapologetic humour. Rain touched a nerve with listeners, propelling the band into a constant touring schedule with artists such as Ben Lee and Mia Dyson.

Hailing from Adelaide, Cloher moved to Sydney in her late teens to tread the boards at esteemed acting academy NIDA. Whilst studying, Cloher purchased her first second-hand guitar, cutting class in favour of writing songs in the ladies change rooms. Upon graduating Cloher headed south to Melbourne where she formed her band The Endless Sea: Jen Sholakis (Drums), Lord Geoffrey Dunbar (Bass), Andrea Sumner (Violin) and Michael Hubbard (Guitar).

So have a listen to “Better Off Dancing”, then pop over to their myspace site and check out the other songs on offer and then (if you live in Melbourne) get your self down to the East Brunswick Club Hotel on Saturday 16th December and see what you think.

thatch is fascinated by guitars, music, guitars, production, silly noises, guitars and used to be a musician. Did I mention the thing about the guitars?
