I slept through my shift last week – did you miss me? I’ve found some fine music that I’d like to share with you. Out of the States come The Indulgers.

The Indulgers

The indulgers have been tarred by the folk rock brush. More rock than folk, fiddle rather than electric guitar and I’m not complaining. That’s not to say that they can’t knock out a great little dance tune or two but the current album rocks sounding like a modern Horslips, the 1970s Irish rock band.

Right now their recorded sound is a bit thin (Wildfire not withstanding) but if this band got themselves a producer/arranger ala Runrig or Wolfstone or U2 or even Big Country’s early albums and decent bagpipe samples they would be unstoppable.

They have terrific songs, memorable tunes, a great sounding front vocalist, a killer back beat supported by solid bass, fiddle and accordion … there’s not much more that a girl could want.

From their website:

The Indulgers is a 9 year old Celtic / Western / Rock Band hailing from Boulder and Golden, Colorado. The Indulgers are: Dublin born Damien McCarron Vocal/Guitar, Pat Murphy Drums & Percussion, Renee Fine Violin, Chris Murtaugh Bass, and Mike Nile Guitar, Mandolin, Whistle, Accordian, and Electronic Bagpipe.

There website has no music but strangely provides plenty of links that take you offsite. Start with the CD Baby site that features two albums worth of 2 minutes samples – frustrating as all get out but it gives you a good overview of the depth of their material. This band are a must add to my collection but it’ll have to wait till after Christmas when I’ll be putting together a CD Baby post moving day care package for our upcoming relocation.

Master Jones is my pick of the tracks available of MySpace, but listen to the other tracks too, most particularly don’t miss Wildfire.

is a graphic designer who used to front a band on vocals and bass. All evidence of which have mercifully been obliterated or otherwise lost.
