Danielson reminds me of the Bonzos meets Frank Zappa with lyrics written by a demented version of They might Be Giants. It’s not exactly stream of consiousness because it all ultimately hangs together … sort of. Take the lyrics for Did I Step on Your Trumpet?
Did I step on your trumpet
or did I lump I put your name on the ballot I been called the wet blanket Yes I know how to be quiet just one more thing I wrote for you a lovely sonnet and it goes on in a similar vein until the end when it finishes with; Pleasing people Be just who you’re made to be
lump them in with you
Cause you should run
Though you don’t want to
By cranks who I out rank with no thanks
Who do not have a clue
I made you something
Bout two great friends
yours truly and you
is
so predictable
Then stab you how many
Time I obsess
And am making a mess
Failing to impress you
In all that I can’t
Pappa is so mighty pleased with thee.
Daniel Smith, the eldest sibling of five, closely-knit, brothers and sisters, has released music under a handful of different monikers since 1995. Originally creating ?Danielson? as an art school project for his senior thesis, the idea quickly started to grow into the aptly named ?Danielson Famile.?
Danielson has birthed nearly the same number of releases. It is really hard to know what to say about Danielson, but here is something that needs to be heard to be appreciated (in the very early hours of the morning, inebriated and preferably not alone.)
Danielson is compelling. Don’t miss a chance to hear and see this extraordinary audio visual act.
jools is a graphic designer who used to front a band on vocals and bass. All evidence of which have mercifully been obliterated or otherwise lost.
