Here we go strolling out on the edges again, I was put on to the “Negative Sound Institute” and told (backed up with threats of violence) to check it out. So I did. And that’s how I found Dava Sobel, now lets have a quick look here, we have guitars, percussion, vocals and household objects??? I love “found sounds” (Jools one recorded a piece using an egg slicer… sadly no copies exist).
Here is Dava Sobel’s explanation
‘It all began on a cold winters day on an old computer. The software and equipment was basic but the ideas were there and so it all began. Different pieces attempt to capture a specific mood or atmosphere. The real aim here is to show that you don’t need a full home studio to enjoy recording music. Just look around your house or your garden to see that anything is possible.’
Dava Sobel hails from Exeter in England and the music is classed as “Experimental Ambient Acoustic Folk” (gotta love that one). Seriously though, Berzelii Park is gentle and clever and really rather nice. It probably would make a good chill piece. This is one of four tracks on offer at the site, and they are all equally interesting.
If you enjoy this (and I think you will) check out some of the other material and performers at the Negative Sound Institute website. They have podcasts and all sorts of stuff.
Here is some guff…
Negative Sound Institute offers music that is available exclusively through free mp3 downloads; however, we do also plan occasional CD releases as well. All mp3 releases at Negative Sound Institute are released under the Creative Commons license so they are free to download and distribute as you wish, as long as it is not done for profit.
NSI is a non-profit project and any profits made from CD releases or other merchandise is set aside for web site hosting fees and to fund future releases.
The purpose of NSI is to release music, be it experimental or not, by a variety of different artists who feel that NSI can help bring their work to a wide and appreciative audience. NSI are not in it for the money, even if there was any to be had, and all rights of the artists and of their recorded material are reserved and all music and graphics are copyright of the respective authors.
All in all a good one.

fascinated by guitars, music, guitars, production, silly noises, guitars and used to be a musician. Did I mention the thing about the guitars?
