Lou Rhodes spent 10 years fronting Lamb, a really interesting trip-hop (down-tempo) act from the UK and is now going it alone. She is returning to her acoustic folk roots, and is producing work that sounds immediate and very live, I think it’s her voice, it reminds me of Natalie Merchant (another singer we must chat about someday), that does it.
“Save Me” has a childlike execution that is just compelling, the toy piano sounds of the guitar, drag you into the world of the song and then the plaintive voice and finally the strings kick in and finish you off. This is great stuff and for those of us in Melbourne. Lou is playing at the Corner Hotel on Thursday, 12th April.
Lou will be performing songs from her critically acclaimed, Mercury Award nominated solo debut album ‘Beloved One”. Her unmistakable voice combines with simple yet compelling melodies and acoustic, traditional instrumentation to great effect. Still as serene and sensual as ever, Lou demands as much attention in her current singer-songwriter incarnation as she did on the dance floor with Lamb. Tender, haunting and funky, this is contemporary British music at its very best.
You can find a clip of lamb here www.lamb.tv/movies/lamb0101.mov and see what the fuss was about.

fascinated by guitars, music, guitars, production, silly noises, guitars and used to be a musician. Did I mention the thing about the guitars?
