I came across this outfit late last year and while they will probably never set the world alight, they do have a certain something that makes them quite listenable.
Itchy fingers is a delightful live mashup where pipes meet calypso, it’s infectious and witty. Jacobs Ladder sounds a lot like a modern hymn, fitting somehow because the vocalist spent time singing in a church choir.
MacTalla Mor features acclaimed Great Highland Bagpiper Jesse Moses Of-gang of Metro NY’s Kenmure Pipe band on Pipes, Whistles, Guitar, Percussion and Vocals. His sister Ilana Regina on Piano, Bass Pedals, Organ and Lead Vocals. Their little brother Levon on Pipes, Whistles and Percussion. Their brother, songwriter and Magician “MageErik”, on vocals and Magic and mom Patty Devlin on Bodhran and Vocals. Father Dr O is mix master and manager. MacTalla M?r, Gaelic for Great Echo, features The Great Highland Bagpipes, Piano, Vocals and Bodhran in a dynamic mix of Traditional Celtic, Roots Rock, Calypso, Blues and Jazz. Their champion pipers and award winning musicians and singers make them a crowd favorite at major Festivals and Concerts throughout North America. Their energetic performances receive great reviews, standing ovations and instant invitations to return wherever they perform. Along with Traditional Irish and Scottish tunes, MacTalla’s original songs, arrangements and driving rhythms create an engaging and magical blend of the past and the present.
Sadly, the band website is up and down like a yo-yo, but the feed from MySpace seems to be stable. This is where you will find the two listed tracks.
jools is a graphic designer who used to front a band on vocals and bass. All evidence of which have mercifully been obliterated or otherwise lost.
