OK let’s get this out of the way, the hook from this song has been banging around in my head since last Sunday (and I don’t have a copy of it on the MP3 player). Somehow Finland managed to sneak a really tough little pop song (that’s pretending to be hard core rock…. aggressive guitar solo? I don’t think so) into the Eurovision Contest. But it never stood a chance, there appears to be an unwritten rule that a country can’t win two years in a row.

The 30 second bio. Hanna Pakarinen was a 22 year old forklift driver, singing part time in a rock band. She enters Finnish Idol (god it’s insidious isn’t it), she scores 60% of the vote and wins the 2004 contest. She then gigs up and down the country, signs with Sony-BMG, releases a couple of albums and generally charms everyone who meets her. In February 2007 Hanna took part in Eurovision Song Contest Finnish trials, where “Leave Me Alone” was voted to represent Finland in the Eurovision Finals. Not bad going eh?

So to finish ( get it Finnish… never mind) off Eurovision for another year, the winning song from Serbia was one of those “hair on the back of your neck” jobs. A well deserved win. Ukraine had some of the best “trash pop” I have seen for a few years and Ireland were doing a song about the weather (or was it an allegory about the peace process?), I have seen Dervish play and this was really a disappointment. Now here is a final thought for you. If Scotland buggers off er sorry “devolves from the union”,do they get to put in an entry and will Mark Hunter from the “tartan Podcast” get to have a say in it. Scary huh?

thatch is fascinated by guitars, music, guitars, production, silly noises, guitars and used to be a musician. Did I mention the thing about the guitars?
