Man, this band is hot. From Germany comes Lyriel. They started as a project called Sorrowsend with Lyriel as a side project that soon took centre stage featuring vocalist Jessica.

The band is a composite of diverse influence but the music style is folk influenced rock with a metal edge and a fiery line in head banging.

A line up that features the usual drums, bass, guitar and keyboards but adds cello and violin to create huge, massively overproduced and gloriously riotous music.

Turn up the volume and isten to Lind´huil and you be the judge.

If that whets your appetite and I’m sure it must, wander over to myspace for some more. Regen is my favourite, it’s from their indie release Autumntales. The title track Autumntales is a haunting ballad very reminicent of Loreena McKennett, while The Promised Land is a gothic extravaganza with precision drumming, driving guitar and violin lines bound round by sweeping vocals and keyboard orchestrations.

Waypoints of several related music directions are melting to a union of melodies and a completely own new style! The songs of Lyriel rang from sensitive, dreamy ballads, sometimes in a medieval style up, to hard pieces and classical arrangements and elements of folk. On top of this all, Jessica’s strong but gentle voice brings a melodic and very special vibe into the music and holds it all together.

This band has all the makings to really go places, great songs, stage presence and excellent musicians. Their website was not linking to further samples from their media page on writing this piece, but that may have sorted itself out by the time you read this.

is a graphic designer who used to front a band on vocals and bass. All evidence of which have mercifully been obliterated or otherwise lost.
