Andrew Bird started his musical career in the nineties playing violin with the Squirrel Nut Zippers and over the next ten years he managed to blend rock, folk, jazz and retro swing music in ways that seem frankly mindbending.

After the Squirrel Nut Zippers he formed Andrew Bird’s Bowl of Fire, exploring traditional jazz, folk and swing, released a couple of well received albums and then swerved and introduced more rock into his music. So for the next next two albums, 2003′s Weather Systems and 2005′s Mysterious Production of Eggs (isn’t that just a great title for an album) we find Andrew playing guitar and continuing his move into rock.

“Heretic” is from his latest album Armchair Apocrypha and continues his trend toward a more accessible sound, with a more traditional rock instrumentation featuring more than on his previous releases.

As an aside, along the way he has acquired an impressive collection of guest spots with an eclectic mix of other performers, check out en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Andrew_Bird and you will see what I mean.

This is a live version of “Imitosis” from Armchair Apocrypha…
Filmed during Andrew Bird’s showcase at La Maroquinerie (Paris) by Fargo, March 2007.

Recommended.

thatch is fascinated by guitars, music, guitars, production, silly noises, guitars and used to be a musician. Did I mention the thing about the guitars?
