I was talking to a friend on the weekend continuing our never ending conversation about music (it’s been running over 30 years) and I mentioned CAKE in passing and then realised that I hadn’t actully mentioned them on duggup.

SO to rectify that omission, today’s post is about CAKE. They started up in Sacremento California in the early Nineties and quickly became regulars on the live music scene. They cross genres as easily as some people change socks and have a wicked collection of lyrics, crunchy guitars and an even more wicked sense of humour.

I chose “Comfort Eagle”… we basically I just love the line , “we are building a religion / we are building it bigger…, and “Now his hat is on backwards / He can show you his tatoos / He is in the music business / He is calling you “DUDE!”. Play the song, it is a gem.

Here is the band performing “Comfort Eagle”…

Here is some hype about the band’s current album…

As the band continues work on their next studio album, they have announced that two new albums will be released during 2007 through Upbeat Records: “Live at the Crystal Palace” (autumn 2007); and “b-sides and rarities” (spring 2007), which features Black Sabbath’s “War Pigs” and Barry White’s “Never, Never Gonna Give You Up”, plus other covers and CAKE originals. The limited edition “scratch and sniff” album art and appeal of the recordings to long-time-listeners adds to the “b-sides and rarities” album’s uniqueness.

A lot of fun and well worth a listen

thatch is fascinated by guitars, music, guitars, production, silly noises, guitars and used to be a musician. Did I mention the thing about the guitars?
