Gosh, not had a Saturday Sample for a while. For all the downsides of MySpace, one thing it has done is encourage more performers to put up whole songs and even videos for people to listen to. This is no bad thing from where I am standing. Pontificate mode – off.
The Australian Aboriginal culture has always had a rich tradition involving dance and song. Yilila are one of the indigenous groups of musicians and dancers who take their inspiration from their Northern Territory culture and combine it with musical roots elements from other cultures including Reggae and pop. They sing in Nunggubuyu, Anindilyakwa and English.
This post is sort of timely given that the Deadly 2007 awards are due very soon. (For those of our off shore readers, the Deadlys celebrates Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander achievement in the areas of sport, music, entertainment and the community. Yilila are one of the nominated musical acts for this year.)
