First up try out Zomby, this is a remixers delight, although melodically it’s a bit hard going in places ( let’s see…. is dyslectically rhythmic a real concept or just something I made up?). But Mock and Toof work through ideas at a seriously profligate rate. Now I know Generation Twitch is supposed to have a small attention span but this is astounding, there are more ideas in this piece than in a couple of albums I just listened to.
Now if you fancy something in the “killer funk” vein, have a listen to “Black Jub”. This has a groove that George Clinton would be proud to lay claim to. This is going onto the MP3 player as a keeper.
Here is a bit of background…
A year ago, the man they now call Mock jacked in his dayjob, hooked up with his pal Toof (these guys…), and put everything he had – financial, emotional, whimsical – into starting a label, London’s gloriously independent Tiny Sticks Records. Fast forward a few months, and Tiny Sticks is already being touted as one of the most interesting imprints to emerge from the UK dance scene in years, while Mock & Toof themselves are making a big splash with trippy, leftfield disco productions that are going to have your Lindstroms and your Morgan Geists running for cover.
So, well worth an investment of your time and your money… if you can figure out somewhere other than iTunes to buy it.
thatch is fascinated by guitars, music, guitars, production, silly noises, guitars and used to be a musician. Did I mention the thing about the guitars?
