A friend told me about this band and insisted I write them up, they had caught them at a local pub (The Rob Roy in Fitzroy)a couple of weeks ago. I looked them up and downloaded a couple of the songs from the MySpace site (nice touch guys), loaded up on the long suffering MP3 player and just let the songs take their chances.

At first I wasn’t all that impressed, but over a week or so “I’m Just As Troubled As You” started to get my attention. It’s a gentle song that has a great chorus that just invites you to press replay over and over again (endless loop is such a great function on an MP3 player). The organ and backing vocals are just wonderfully understated.

Some hype from the site…

Major Chord was born in the winter of 2006 on a living room table. He came into existence somewhere between the Minor Key and the Umbilical Cord. Major Chord is sometimes lonely – singing and strumming guitar, but often wistful harmonies and whispering violin appear. Then other times caressed keys, bopping bass and beating drums you hear. Blending folk sugar with hints of alt-rock spice Major Chord creates a warm and vibrant delight.

Not withstanding all the puns, this band is worth a couple of listens, “Inside Out” is crawling up the playlist as well.

Recommended and if you are in Melbourne they are playing at the Northcote Social Club on Wednesday Oct 3.

thatch is fascinated by guitars, music, guitars, production, silly noises, guitars and used to be a musician. Did I mention the thing about the guitars?
