The Veils are originally from New Zealand and are now based in the UK. Their music sounds to me like The Birthday Party meets Joy Division, I realise that’s about as helpful as saying the sky is blue… it may be true but it doesn’t tell you a lot that is useful.
Head over to the MySpace site and have a listen to “Lions After Slumber” or “Jesus For The Jugular”, there is serious craft here, and passion to burn. I am really intrigued by this band’s work, the production is pretty damn good, the string arrangements on “Lavinia” offset the vocals manic scat.
The reviews of their live shows always seem to mention the emotional intensity and Andrew Finn’s often scarily possessed stage presence. Stroll along to the East Brunswick Club Hotel in early November and find out for yourself. In the meantime I will keep listening to “Lions After Slumber”.
Recommended.

fascinated by guitars, music, guitars, production, silly noises, guitars and used to be a musician. Did I mention the thing about the guitars?
