“Cruel Queen” sounds as if it should be a Child Ballad and is presented to us with a close and intimate voice, and really interesting arrangements and instrumentation. I heard this and found my mind being taken back to the first Sandy Denny solo album (which when I went and listened to it, sounded nothing like it… your memory can play fey tricks on you. But I digress).
Damon Krukowski and Naomi Yang have been playing together since the late Eighties (nice to see another overnight success grace our pages) and with guitarist Michio Kurihara are responsible for this piece off their latest album. Jools isn’t convinced but I really like the way they play with the guitar, vocals and really sparse arrangements.
Make sure you check out the LIVE version of “Song To The Siren” at the MySpace site. This is an old Tom Buckley song. Yes? No? Yes! (Thank you Google)
So hands up everyone whos is now searching for the vibrato setting in their chorus pedal? Well worth a listen.
thatch is fascinated by guitars, music, guitars, production, silly noises, guitars and used to be a musician. Did I mention the thing about the guitars?
