This multicultural band from Canada play a mix of styles that defies easy categorisation. The Paperboys are a little bit country, a little bit folk, a little bit Latin, a little bit pop and little bit lots of other stuff as well. An eclectic blend that winds up producing lovely melodies and memorable songs.
The band are a talented lot too starting with Tom Landa, the lead vocalist who also plays guitars including the Mexican jarana and piano, Geoffrey Kelly is on flute and percussion and vocals, Kendel Carson who plays a mean fiddle and also provides vocals, Matt Brain is the drummer and percussionist, while Brad Gillard completes the lineup with banjo, bass and vocals.
As you can see, there are lots of voices in this band which makes for some very fine harmony work. From their website…
But what really sets The Paperboys apart is their live show. And for that, the only opinion that matters are the fans who routinely sell out some of the most popular and prestigious clubs throughout Canada, the U.S., Mexico and Europe. They’ve played everywhere from The Kennedy Center in Washington DC, to The Borderline in London. The Paperboys burn up stages at countless festivals including New York’s Falconridge Festival, The Folk Alliance Festival, The Boston Folk Festival, San Francisco’s Guinness Oyster Festival and Seattle’s Bumbershoot. They’ve headlined at the UK’s Warwick and Trowbridge festivals, and Denmark’s Tonder and Skagen festivals. The band averages well over 150 shows a year.
I’m surprised that the buzz for this band has not been more extensive, but I guess it is early days yet. Definitely worth a listen. This is their cover of the Sting song – Fragile – so good.

Wow. They are awesome.
You didn’t mention that they had an absolute killer version of “All Along The Watchtower”.
