Jools found this one and flicked it over to me to see what I thought. Fugitif1 is by SWOD from their first album. If you’ve been looking for something really timeless and special, then have we got a track for you… Swod is the recording project of oliver doerell and stephan wohrmann, two accomplished musicians who met in Berlin sometime in 1991.
So what does it sound like? Well, the immediate image that came to my mind was that he was writing soundtracks for William Burroughs books (this is a good thing), picture a candlelit room with a zoetrope spinning erratically and imagine that the scratchy metallic animal sounds and snatches of shortwave interference that play around and over and under a beautifully expressive solo piano piece.
This is like Windham Hill solo piano meets foundobject noises, now this could go ugly in the blink of an eye if the performer wasn’t careful but the end result here is light and clean (damn it’s starting to sound like a beer ad)
And what a seriously busy fellow is Oliver Doerell, running in at least three bands, writing music for radio/theatre/dance/sound installations and occasionally playing all over the place.
have a look at www.dictaphone-music.de/ and don’t miss the video/animation at www.abnormalbehaviorchild.com/index01.html that he did the sound for.
thatch is fascinated by guitars, music, guitars, production, silly noises, guitars and used to be a musician. Did I mention the thing about the guitars?
