“Famous” is from Mackenzie 1st’s 2004 album (it was their first album). This brings a smile to my face with it’s obvious Blink 182/Wheatus feel, lets face it if you are going to do alternative pop, you may as well model your sound on someone good. Seriously this band wanders through a lot more territory and their current album has a harder edge to it.
Lets have some hype…
From the hostile, frozen wastelands of Montreal that brought you The Dears, Simple Plan, Bran Van 3000 and Men Without Hats comes the pop rock quartet known only as Mackenzie 1st. With powerful drum and bass lines, in your face guitar riffs and catchy vocals, you will remember their infectious sound. Mackenzie 1st will continue to take their music to the public with their debut album Got Mack?
You can check out some of the newer material at their MySpace site. I actually left the MySPace site running while I was doing some reading and found them varied enough not to get bored and flick them off. Which is strange, for a band that doesn’t have a strong guitar soloist. But as a band they are tight with a solid rhythm section. I have friends telling me that guitar solo’s are so last millennium but hey so am I.
“Better” was a song that I hit replay on as soon as it finished. It has a nice little fuzz guitar solo in it.
Worth a listen, they made me smile.
thatch is fascinated by guitars, music, guitars, production, silly noises, guitars and used to be a musician. Did I mention the thing about the guitars?
