Struggle Street is Tony Maughan, he pulls together sounds and production values from the Seventies and sounds and production values from ten minutes ago puts them together and creates highly polished and sophisticated songs.

“The Truth Of It” is driven by a melody that will hook you before you hit the second verse. Strong vocals, lush arrangement and a “wall of sound” production style. This is the one that stopped me. The rest of the material on myspace is equally as good.

But the killer track turns out to be one of the thirty plus songs over at his other website mp3.com.au/tonymaughan... try out “Acquiesce” . This is a dark and brooding piece, I can hear chunks of Floyd and Gabriel in it. The vocals treatment is straight from “The Wall” but it doesn’t matter. This is a good song. The piano and the sound collage are just so well done (a nice job of filing off the serial numbers), that the influences don’t seem to matter.

So from the bright poppy “The Truth Of It” to the darkness of “Acquiesce” and the thirty odd songs in between, that should keep you busy for a day or so.

Well worth a listen

is fascinated by guitars, music, guitars, production, silly noises, guitars and used to be a musician. Did I mention the thing about the guitars?
