Today’s track is from the computer game “Assasin’s Creed“, it was written by Jesper Kyd. A British Academy award-winning composer who writes soundtracks for video games and movies.
“Jerusalem Horse Ride” is an amazing amalgam of orchestral and modern music (with the odd choir checked in for good measure). He seems to be interested in some of the same stuff the Loreena McKennitt has been in exploring. There are rhythms and instruments that seem to be common to both composers. It’s an interesting piece rhythmically, I am now on the look out for some more music of a similar construction.
I can’t tell you much about the game, other than it’s selling like hotcakes but I can tell you that Jesper Kyd started composing back in the mid Eighties on a Commodore 64 back in 85 and later became part of the Amiga demo scene (cue Memories… ). There is a bunch of info and some more music over at www.jesperkyd.com . Good music is where you find it.
And here is where the horse ride delivered us…
