I first heard “The Pearlfishers” back in 2003 while Jools and I were over in Scotland. The track that stuck in my head was “My Dad The Weatherfan” (which is on the MySpace site), it is a truly wonderful piece of pop and then I found the new Runrig and it pushed them out of my mind until a fortnight or so back.
“Up With Larks” is a classic piece of songwriting and the well thought out hand crafted arrangement
.
In a perfect world “Up With The Larks” would be on everyone’s clockradio to kickstart their day, lush vocal harmonies, layers and layers of guitars, Missy Higgins’ battered upright piano and a road less travelled melody that twists and turns just when you think you have it. What else do you need?
The Pearlfishers, write 3 minute orchestral pop masterpieces (that last over four minutes), if you close your eyes you can see the Beatles movies and a ton of bad Sixties television (that always seemed to have great music) soundtracks.
Highly Recommended

fascinated by guitars, music, guitars, production, silly noises, guitars and used to be a musician. Did I mention the thing about the guitars?
