God does this take me back. The start of Tyrants by Canadian band, Black Mountain is like going back to your childhood and remembering the first time you heard Black Sabbath or King Crimson (this is a good thing) and then they really get going.

Black Mountain is an indie-rock band that fired up around 2004 and they obviously listen to a lot of the same albums that I listened to way back when. According to the website…

The band is a psychedelic amalgamation of Neil Young and Led Zeppelin, Jimi Hendrix, Pink Floyd, the Velvet Underground, and Black Sabbath“.

Well I can hear a lot more in there but more importantly I can hear a bunch of musicians that are having a great time making music. Their taste seems to be limitless and the tracks at the Myspace site http://www.myspace.com/blackmountain or www.blackmountainarmy.com/ will give you a good idea of where they come from and where that are heading to.

Tyrants is a really good song to start with. Black Mountain is a band that wont appeal to everyone, but there is a “take no prisoners” intensity to the performance that will win me over every time.

Well worth a listen. (Allow me to suggest a volume setting of load and turn up from there)

thatch is fascinated by guitars, music, guitars, production, silly noises, guitars and used to be a musician. Did I mention the thing about the guitars?
