Crayon Fields
By jools • Feb 11th, 2008 • Category: Australian, Indie, Music, PopI heard this Melbourne four piece band playing about a year ago and they impressed me at the time with their understated atmospheric vocals. Since then they have released their first album “Animal Bells” on CD and unusually for this country, a 12 inch vinyl pressing as well. This quote is from their label’s website:
The Crayon Fields formed in their last year of high school in 2002 and released two previous independent EPs. Geoff O’Conner’s often falsetto vocals and ringing 12 string guitar playing are ably accompanied by Brett Hudson’s nimble bass playing, Chris Hung on 2nd guitar and percussion and Neil Erenstrom on drums.
The songs pays homage to the music of a simpler time although they themselves are quite complex. My favourite numberfrom the debut album is the delightfully playful “Living So Well” and there is an equally playful video by Caitlin.
