Cicada Conformatigmatic

Cicada is the brainchild of Judson Cowan. When I found the site a few months back I was really taken with what was then his latest album “Conformatigmatic“. It is a rather interesting collection of electronic pop with serious punk undertones. The one that I found myself listening to frequently is the track titled “Optimus Prime“, it’s so full of suprises, milk bottle chimes and sephucaral church organs and then lush layers of instruments.

Since then of course, Cicada has released a new album entitled “Maladies“. My immediate favourite after a couple of listens is “Alzheimers” although “Tinnitis” would be a close second. This new album is more polished and has lost some of the more “in your face” arrangements but as I listen to it the ideas are just as provocative. This is music worth spending some time on. Don’t miss “Measles” either.

I really like this, well worth your time.

Cicada’s websites are at www.myspace.com/cicadacom and www.cicadacom.com/

UPDATE:

Judson has changed the name of the band to Tettix (see below in the comments)

thatch is fascinated by guitars, music, guitars, production, silly noises, guitars and used to be a musician. Did I mention the thing about the guitars?

  1. Hey Thatch, thanks so much for the kinds words – just stumbled across your site while googling myself (I’m that arrogant :O). Thought I’d let you know the name has changed to “Tettix” – thanks to the UK group Cicada being so popular, and also thanks to the fact that there are hundreds of other bands named Cicada. Thanks for listening!
