Múm are from Iceland, and after reading Jeremy Clarkson’s “Motorworld” book I had decided it sounded a really interesting place to go to, now I have found a second reason…
Hallo. We are múm and thats who we are, (pronounced “miooyyuujm”). And now our new album is out and Go Go Smear The Poison Ivy
The band recorded their new album all over the place, from the west fjords of Iceland in a small music school (making use of the schools various instruments) to the drums being recorded in an old school house on the island of Nötö west of Finland. The songs were conceived and perfected over a long period of time (it was 3 years between albums), they toured extensively in Europe, the US and Asia and were invited to Amsterdam by the Holland Festival to collaborate with the National Dutch Chamber Orchestra to create a performance piece based around various compositions of the late avant-garde composer Iannis Xenakis for one of the centre piece shows at the festival.
“Dancing Behind My Eyelids” is an interesting piece with such a great palette of sounds and textures. If pressed to identify what it is about them that makes them stand out, I would have to say have to say that the music just captures my imagination and takes me away.
The band and touring Australia and playing in Melbourne in Mid March 2008 which will beeasier for me to get to than Iceland (lucky that)
