Yeasayer – 2080

Yeasayer are a band from New York who describes its sound as “Middle Eastern – Psych – Pop – Snap – Gospel”. Hmm… I don’t know about that but I have been listening to their track “2080” and it’s fabulous.
I can hear a cross road meeting between Johnny Clegg with Hilton Rosenthal and Peter Gabriel and maybe Baku Baku. This track has been bouncing around my MP3 player for a while now and it just keeps getting better. Maybe this isn’t everyone’s cup of tea but it suits me just fine. Give it a couple of listens and watch it grow on you.
NPR has the recorded Yeasayer at SXSW 2008:
March 13, 2008 – Yeasayer filters the rhythms of Talking Heads through a fish-eye lens, picks up a Roxy Music record, and heaps on the energy of a gospel choir. The Brooklyn band’s debut, All Hour Cymbals, artfully layers tribal drums, atmospheric overtones, and steady funk basslines in a natural and exciting way. Hear a concert recorded live at the Parish in Austin, Tex., on March 13, 2008.
This is an absolute killer set, the energy and the groove of this performance is just amazing.
Here is the video for the next single release “
Wait for the Summer”..
