Weinland – Sick As A Gun

I could be getting into a rut at the moment everything I am enjoying either sounds like Jesus and Mary Chain or Neil Young, it could be worse I suppose. Anyway today’s choice is in the Neil Young “Americana” mode.
Weinland are a five piece out of Oregon in the States. And they make some of the most drop dead gorgeous music I have heard for a while. Have a listen to “Sick As A Gun“, frontman Adam Shearers vocals are so warm and intimate, his voice just invites you into a “confidences being shared” friendship. The slide guitar riff is understated and seductive and if you listen really carefully there is a distorted electric way back in the back (obviously put there just to keep people like me happy).
Actually if you prefer electric guitar and fabulous keyboards make sure you check out “Gold“, same wonderful vocals and slide, but there are dark undertones to the story. The arrangements and production are just startling, there is light and shade here and that’s a rarity these days.
Here is some footage of “La Lamentor” from YouTube…
There is a wonderful quote on the website…
“La Lamentor is one of those albums that is beautifully arranged and produced, leaving the songs to sidle up next to the listener like long lost friends.” – Americana UK
That is just so spot on, you need to be so careful with these guys, one listen and you will find these tunes taking up residence in your brain… on a long term lease. As I said earlier, it could be worse.
Highly Recommended.

fascinated by guitars, music, guitars, production, silly noises, guitars and used to be a musician. Did I mention the thing about the guitars?
