The Black Keys – Strange Times
By thatch • May 16th, 2008 • Category: Blues, Music, RockThe Black Keys are a blues-rock duo consisting of Dan Auerbach (vocals and guitar) and Patrick Carney (drums and percussion) from Akron, Ohio. This is a serious amount of noise for just two people. What is really amazing is that they are amazing.
Head over to their MySpace site at www.myspace.com/theblackkeys click on “Strange Times” and turn up the volume. The music is a mix of crunchy guitars and thundering rhythms.
Friends since they were kids, Auerbach and Carney both dropped out of college and mowed lawns for a living when they first started their band in 2002. They got the name from a schizophrenic artist in Akron who called the two “the black keys,” a phrase he used to describe people who “weren’t quite right.”
I have a couple of their tracks on the MP3 player but what prompted me to write them up today, is a great live recording ofThe Black Keys, in Concert : NPR Music This is a killer bracket, over an hour of full on, intense rock.
Live Concert footage…
Damn these guys are amazing.
