Welcome to another Monday morning. Today I thought I’d start the week off on a gentle note and for those of us for whom mornings are a chore – settle down with a cup of coffee and tap you feet to the enchanting music that is brought to you by Earthly Delights.
Earthly Delights hale from the Australian Capital Territory. They are a dance ensemble with a moveable membership depending on the requirements on the day. They perform in costume appropriate to the function at which they are performing.
Their current lineup includes but is by no means limited to John Garden on hurdy gurdy, border pipes and celtic flute, Ian Blake on bass, woodwinds and keyboards, Laszlo Lakk on transylvanian viola, zither and guitar, Ceri Teather on oboe, Andrew Purdam on percussion, keyboards and hammered dulcimer,
Liam Morrissey on cello, Mick Thompson, percussion and Amy Garden on violin.
Earthly Delights has been from the beginning heavily influenced by the European bagpipe and hurdy-gurdy tradition, particularly from central France and Hungary. Alongside this, however, the band maintains a very strong repertoire of English traditional and self–composed dance music.
They music for a charming animation called “L’animateur” is attributed to Earthly Delights. The animation was created by a stop frame animator called Nick Hilligoss and if you follow the link you can see more of his work.
Meanwhile back at the main attraction, they have some tunes that you can download from their website, and of course there is the obligatory MySpace website.
jools is a graphic designer who used to front a band on vocals and bass. All evidence of which have mercifully been obliterated or otherwise lost.
