Today’s artist is Eva Tree, and I have to say there is a lot to like about her work. It skirts dangerously close to country in places but her voice has a quality that I have just grown to love.

A lot of the press seems to draw a comparison with Natalie Merchant and I can see it on her song “Hurricane” but it’s still a stretch. Did I mention that she has a killer band, guitars, mandolin, dobro, accordion and the harmonies, oh they will break your heart. The recording has caught such a live performance, Jude Davison’s production is just wonderful. All the songs seem to have a sitting out the back on a sunny arvo feel. Not fussy at all.

Eva’s singing is raw and unadorned and Jude’s harmonies add a warmth of tone that creates a complexity and sweetness of sound which is right at the crossroads where heart-yearning melancholy meets joyful.

I can’t recommend this one highly enough. Start with “That’s Alright” and then just work your way through the rest.

is fascinated by guitars, music, guitars, production, silly noises, guitars and used to be a musician. Did I mention the thing about the guitars?
