Another one from the “how did I miss this” file. The Postal Service is a name that I see referred to all the time and for some reason, I never followed up. You can imagine how stupid I feel now (especially when I look at their MySpace site and note that it’s been played over 5 million times).

The District Sleeps Alone Tonight” is just brilliant. This song is just bursting with ideas trying to get out, the fabulous washes full of samples and electonica tumble all over one another and the backing vocals are just beautiful. The guitar just plays a simple repeating motif in the middle with notes that ring out like bells on a crisp winters morning. I am so jealous. The lyrics are really intriguing, I am left wondering if it autobiographical. They seem somehow personal.

The band is basically a collaboration between Jimmy Tamborello from Dntel and Ben Gibbard from Death Cab For Cutie.

Seriously Recommended.
