The fratellis

The Fratellis are a Glasgow indie outfit who have risen from obscurity to fame proving for once that there really is something in the expression of overnight success. Since their first gig in 2005 they have won awards, toured and recorded.

In 2006 with their debut album, Costello Music, despite being labeled as a pub band they won critical acclaim with the sale of 15 million copies worldwide. It will be interesting to see if their new album, Here We Stand, can live up to the hype.

The first international release from the new album is Mistress Mabel and here is a YouTube version from the British Jools Holland Show.

The Fratellis are Jon Fratelli on vocals and guitar, Mince Fratelli on drums and vocals) Barry Fratelli on bass), now they aren’t related and their surname is not Fratelli, that’s the name of their manager – but then, that could be part of the joke too. Their touring keyboardist is Will Foster and he’s a corker.

Here We Stand was self-produced by Jon, Barry and Mince Fratelli in the new studio they built in their home town of Glasgow.

Now that it’s (Here We Stand) is out and winning broad critical acclaim for taking The Fratellis’ sound beyond mere pub anthems, bass guitarist Barry Fratelli reckons they couldn’t be more proud.

“I think there’s a lot to be proud of but we’re more proud because we produced it ourselves,” Barry says.

Read more about them at MySpace and there is heaps of news on the band website.

They are touring to support the new album and they are expected in Australia at the end of July/ beginning of August for five shows, including two in Melbourne.

jools is a graphic designer who used to front a band on vocals and bass. All evidence of which have mercifully been obliterated or otherwise lost.
