American Princes

Today’s band I spotted at NPR, let’s face it how could I walk past a band with three guitarists. American Princes has guitars lying around all over the place, but when you listen to say “Watch As They Go”, there is a ton of space in the mix. Let’s just say they have guitars and they know when NOT to use them.

Some of this probably comes from their collaboration with hip hop and R&B producer Chuck Brody (Wu Tang Clan, Beastie Boys, The Northern State). The older material at MySpace showsa more convential and busy mix. As I listen to this band in the background I keep thinking of Linkin Park’s “Minutes To Midnight” album. It has the same ability to mess with your expectations of what is coming up next.

Here is a clip of one of their older pieces…

Do I think American Princes are a band for the long haul? Maybe. I do think that from what I have heard of their new album that they are able to take risks and in that I think they will find their long term success.

Waiting for the next one. Recommended

thatch is fascinated by guitars, music, guitars, production, silly noises, guitars and used to be a musician. Did I mention the thing about the guitars?
