16 Millimetre – On The Beach

I still don’t have my head around this whole “post-rock” thing yet… it all sounds like rock to me but I have been reliably informed that 16 Millimetre fit the bill. Well as I said it all sounds like rock to me. Here we have a band that are making really intelligent music that gets better and better with eack listening. Lots of yummy guitars and a vocalist in Tom Hoskins who is obviuosly channeling David Bowie. Seriously, it doesn’t get a whole lot better than this. And they are based just down the road from me here in Melbourne.
This is from the band’s website…
Tom studied music under the auspices of Melbourne’s Public Transport System. Tom writes songs on trams and fills pages with thoughts that change shapes into patterns and from patterns form music. Sometimes when the 96 rattles through Carlton the score is full of joy, other times it is stained with angst but it is always full of life in it’s flawed perfection.
Ric Di Clemente – Guitars; Tom Hoskins – Vocals/Guitars; Dave Cox – Drums; Cara Lanyon – Keyboards/Vocals; Will Oldmeadow – Bass;16 Millimetre have just completed their debut album, Fight or Flight, due for release mid-2008. The first single, Better than Life / On the Beach is out now.
Now “Better Than Life” is a pretty damn cool song, and a great place to start.
Highly Recommended
