Whalebone

I am having a “raw” week and just loving it and getting to exercise the guitar fetish is just a plus in my book.
A lot of the music we hear is so produced and “perfect” that all the life somehow gets squeezed out of it. Which is why I have always preferred live albums and live recordings and as a wonderful example we have Whalebone.
Whalebone is an acoustic guitar duo featuring the playing skills of Steve Downs and Charlotte Watson and they have added a fiddle player Sarah Ibberson. Their influences are a range from folk to blues and rock, and from listening to the material on offer at www.myspace.com/whalebone7 there are some spiffy original pieces alongside classic guitar tunes and traditional tunes (blame the fiddler’s influence).
A lot of the material is just two guitars, and that’s two guitars played very very well. My favourite is the “live in the studio set” they do. But make sure you have a listen to “Sultans Of Swing” it scrubs up quite well.
Highly Recommended
They only have a MySpace site currently at www.myspace.com/whalebone7 but they have a regular gig at Cinnamon Coffee and Meeting House in Bridgnorth, Shropshire UK on the fourth Tuesday of each month. So if you are halfway round the world and in the UK pop in, have a listen and let us know what you think.

fascinated by guitars, music, guitars, production, silly noises, guitars and used to be a musician. Did I mention the thing about the guitars?
