Los Campesinos! are a seven piece indie band from Cardiff, Wales. “Los Campesinos” roughly translates as “The Farmers” (or “The Peasants”) in Spanish.

I spotted them in the lineup for Glastonbury festival and was truly surprised by their music, not what I was expecting (I’ll be honest I was looking to find something like Rodrigo y Gabriela) but one listen to “Death To Los Campesinos!” and I was hooked.

So let’s do a quick look at the check-list.

  • Guitars? Check – lots of guitars.
  • Vocals? Check – lots of vocals.
  • Lyrics? Check – lots and lots of words
  • Rhythm Section? – oh yeah… and it’s a good one.

Basically they are pretty damn good, I mean even the NME gave them a nice review

Pop, twee, with bits of post-rock from time to time, and a whole lot of silliness thrown in. Vive le pop. Innit

Well I think it’s a nice review.

Here is a video for “Death To Los Campesinos!”…

Highly Recommended

is fascinated by guitars, music, guitars, production, silly noises, guitars and used to be a musician. Did I mention the thing about the guitars?
