What Laura Says – Dot Dot Dot
By thatch • Aug 17th, 2008 • Category: Alternative, Music, Pop
“What Laura Says” has songs that are full of infectious, quirky vocals and banged out piano chords. Lyrically, they wander between comedic sarcasm and poignancy. Add in a blend of modern pop production and a bunch of retro sounds, from psychedelia to folk and bluegrass. Pretty tasty stuff.
The band began as an acoustic duo (Danny Godbold and James Mulhern) under the name “What Laura Says Thinks and Feels”. They have since shortened the name and add a bunch of new members who really fill out the sound.
“Dot Dot Dot” (courtesy of a NPR podcast) is a gorgeous folk ballad of soft finger-picked guitar that shares a lot in common with Simon and Garfunkel or Jose Gonzales. I just fell in love with this song on the first listening and it has improved on subsequent listening. It’s on of those you just wish you had written…
Here is a performance on a morning television show from a couple of years back…
