Lowry is the brainchild of Alex Lowry.  Originally an art rocker in Kansas, “playing angular progressive rock with a post-punk flair” ( Hmmm. I wonder if there is any of this stuff available?).

So from progressive art rock with a punk edge to songs with an wonderfully crafted and produced folk/pop music. This isn’t the folk music that you will hear over at Roger McGuinn’s Folk Den site although there are a few contenders in Lowry’s repertoire that just might end up as “classics”.

I just love the songs, they are immediately accessible, melodic with killer hooks that don’t let go. Gorgeous production that manages to keep the the natural acoustic feel and the performance shines through. If I had to pick just one I think it would be “Whiskey” (or if you prefer a little more “Americana” feel try “Juke Box Heart”). Trust me the the impressive backing vocals alone will just break your heart.

Here is some hype from the record label site…

The band, holding many shapes and forms, evolved originally from experimental Americana music to a certain cinematic form of rock music. The authentic journey down the lyrical pathways that the band explores is guided patiently and with utmost care by the musicians involved. At times introverted and often tense, the music is the direct result of a reflection of the band’s experience.

Video from YouTube…

This is one of those bands that you need to leave on the MP3 player on high rotation… I know I did.

thatch is fascinated by guitars, music, guitars, production, silly noises, guitars and used to be a musician. Did I mention the thing about the guitars?
