Caverns – This Are Syntax

Caverns have been on the MP3 palyer for a couple of weeks now and it took me awhile to get into where they are coming from.
No lyrics, no vocalist, no catchy hooks and it’s surprisingly engaging. The ideas that flow freely through the tracks are just great, punk progressive rock? as a genre. Each track manages to be different and explores completely different directions. The track that works best for me is “This Are Syntax“, it starts with the drums and guitar setting a frenetic scene and then this amazing dark and brooding piano sound comes in and the whole nature of the piece changes. Absolutely fantastic.
Here is some hype from the site
… Caverns side-steps many of the things that have become cliche in instrumental rock and forge a sound that varies between the beautifully melodic and the intensely discordant and everything in between. In particular the piano playing of Patrick Taylor, which can be delicate or bludgeoning at any given moment, proves that there are new frontiers for the instrument and its use in the context of rock music. Rounded out by Ross Hurt on drums and Kevin Hilliard on guitar, the band has already made a name for itself through live shows in their hometown of Washington, D.C.
Make sure you don’t miss the huge gothic sound of the “The Family That Slays Together”.
Highly Recommended.

fascinated by guitars, music, guitars, production, silly noises, guitars and used to be a musician. Did I mention the thing about the guitars?
