Battles – Atlas
By thatch • Sep 21st, 2008 • Category: Experimental, Music, Rock
Battles is a really amazing group of musicians, consisting of the traditional rock band line up of two guitar players, a bassist, and a drummer, there is also singing, kind of, well if you class sounding like demented Smurfs on helium as singing (I do but we all know about me). SO aprt from the guitars and the smurfs they also take to the stage with an arsenal of tech that includes keyboards, effect pedals and a pair of Apple laptops.
This is a band that isn’t afraid of technolgy and sure as hell know how to use it. But the tech is just a tool, it’s the guitars, the bass and especially their awesome drummer that provdes the anchor to their music.
If you go to www.myspace.com/battlestheband and listen to the studio version of “Atlas”, find an impressive piece of experimental rock music. BUT if you check out the two You Tube videos below you will see and hear a band that just keep pushing the limits. You will be listening and think “Oh I know who is playing that part” and then just as you sort of get the hang of it, yep it all changes. I really love this stuff. I would love to see them live.
Battles – Atlas (live on Later! with Jools Holland)
Battle – Atlas (Live @ FUJI ROCK 2007, JAPAN)
OK, cool huh. So if you like your rock music to have a little heft to it can I suggest you check these guys out.
Highly Recommend
