Andy Yorke – One in a Million

Over in England, Andy Yorke is best known as the former lead singer of the band The Unbelievable Truth, now defunct. On this solo debut album, Andy Yorke shows that he’s quite a nifty singer-songwriter. It’s not earthshattering but he is compelling to listen to, I thinks it’s the easy familiarity of his voice that does it.

“Twist of the Knife” has strings and a fashionable folk feel, “Rise and Fall,” starts with a very nice piano part and sort strolls along to the chorus, and what a nice chorus it is. Ton’s of everything, guitars, vocals, some strings – it’s really quite yummy.

But for me the one that is still on the MP3 player and is playing in the background is “One in a Million,” it opens with a gem of a guitar piece and then the vocals let loose and, oh just shoot over to

Here is some live footage from a gig in Moscow, the songs, “Rise and Fall” and “One in a Million”.

Andy Yorke is someone who is worth investing some time in, after a very few listens you will be hooked.

thatch is fascinated by guitars, music, guitars, production, silly noises, guitars and used to be a musician. Did I mention the thing about the guitars?
