Pikelet – A Bunch

I wrote up the awesome Julianna Barwick back in December 2007, if you liked her you are going to love Pikelet. Pikelet is Evelyn Morris, who started out her music career here in Melbourne as a hardcore drummer, a few years back she switched from drum kit to a mix of classical guitar, piano accordion, an assortment of loop and delay pedals and of course “things you can hit”.
The arrangements are amazing, the song I have been listening to is “A Bunch” (head to www.myspace.com/ovalyn and have a listen). The way it builds with layer on layer and then the vocals just arrive and sit perfectly on top. This is all just drums and voice and arrangement. The rest of her stuff is just as wonderful.
Highly Recommended.

I note that she is playing the Spiegeltent here in Melbourne on the 15th and 16th of October as part of the Melbourne International Arts Festival. Worth a look I think.
