Computer vs. Banjo

“Computer vs. Banjo” is a duo, Johnny Mann was a jazz studies major before playing guitar for Gran Torino; while Beau Stapleton taught himself, focusing on roots music before playing the mandolin for Blue Merle. So lets agree that these are a tad different as backrounds go.  They met in Nashville and “Computer vs. Banjo” was a side project for them, and as these things do consumed the next 12 months leaving them with their debut album.

There are two songs that I have just fallen in love with. “Give Up On Ghosts” is a fairly frenetic piece all full of treated vocals and music with edges and angles and it grows on you. For me, this is the killer track. If they ever remake Butch and Sundance, this should be the soundtrack.  Head over to www.myspace.com/computervsbanjo and see what you think.

The other song is the glorious “Guitars Need A Sinner’s Touch”,  a way more accesible piece. It is an amalgam on current sounds and some of the nicest banjo you will hear this side of a Bela Fleck album.

Highly Recommended
