The Secret Machines

I haven’t really managed to engage with The Secret Machines’ previous two albums, my problem rather than theirs. But their new one is a ripper. Head over to www.myspace.com/secretmachines and click on “Now You’re Gone”. Damn this is a good song full of hypnotics background textures and sounds, a really infectious chorus and some of the best abstract guitar textures I have heard for a while.

There really is a lot to like about the rest of the songs on offer at MySpace. They seem to have perfected the art of listening to a lot of older material and just used it as their take off point. There isn’t nostalgia here, just influences. They actually cared enough to listen.

Here is a “All At Once (It’s Not Important)” from their 2006 album “Ten Silver Drops”…

What I now find truly amusing is that I found this while looking for a clip of “Now You’re Gone”… and I really like it now. Amazing what a difference 12 months can make. I really will have to find the other older albums again and have another listen.

Highly Recommended.
