Danar are a Polish four piece band from Poland who play traditional Celtic and folk music. Facinated by Irish culture and celtic music they have wound it round with their very own arrangements. Arrangements that owe quite a lot to the modern folk tradition as well as jazz. swing, rock and much more.

The lineup is Malgorzata Mycek on vocals, Ewelina Grygier pm Irish wooden flute, whistle, mandolin, Patrycja Napierala on bodhran, cajón, udu, darabuka and other percussion instruments and Tomasz Biela on acoustic guitar.

They have a Polish website where you can hear samples of eight tracks and their MySpace site features three full tracks of which my favourite is “Lana Jigs”. This track displays a keen and almost cinematic soundscape and gives you a taste of the exotic places their music visits. YouTube has a few brief performance clips, but the quality is poor, so I’m not recommending that option unless you are very keen. Otherwise the are quite stunning.

jools is a graphic designer who used to front a band on vocals and bass. All evidence of which have mercifully been obliterated or otherwise lost.
